Portrait by Tjaša Kalamar

I am a London-based journalist and editor. For the last seven years, I've been interested in understanding, of all places, what it means to live, create and protest in a changing Eastern Europe.

Until 2022, I was Managing Editor at The Calvert Journal, where I commissioned features on Croatia’s “Alcatraz”, Georgia’s moveable wooden homes, Kyrgyzstan’s first all-female space agency, Turkmenistan’s deserted suburbs, Russia’s very own Eiffel Tower, and profiled countless artists, photographers, designers, musicians, and entrepreneurs (read my archive in full here). I really enjoyed working with the magazine’s visual stories and played a crucial role in launching and developing the New East Photo Prize, which sought to broaden perceptions of Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Russia and Central Asia.

I have written on visual culture, design, and urbanism for the likes of The Art Newspaper, Apollo, ArchDaily, The British Journal of Photography, The Guardian. I also have many years of workshops, prize judging, portfolio reviews, public speaking, creative consultancy, and audience development under my belt.

I am open to commissions and collaborations, particularly teaching. If you’re an artist or photographer working on a story, a book, an exhibition, need help writing a project statement, pitching to magazines, or are embarking on any new creative path and could benefit from an experienced editor & mentor, please get in touch.
